Versatility Is the Name Of Her Game

Whether it’s on the soccer field, basketball court, in the classroom or wherever she finds herself, Isabel Pergande of Sayre School epitomizes versatility.
The 18-year-old senior carries a 4.25 weighted GPA and has never received a grade lower than an A. She scored 30 on the ACT and has taken six A.P. classes but don’t try to pinpoint her strongest subject.
A member of four Honor Societies (National, Spanish, Math and Art), Isabel is a strong math and science student who won a school humanities award.
She sits on the school’s Honor Council, participates in the mock government and U.N. clubs, is a member of the campus Young Democrats and is active at her church. An elected youth Elder Youth, she has taken mission trips to Detroit, New Orleans and Guatemala.
An admirer of Andy Warhol, she’s also a gifted painter, working in Anime and Pop Art.
Hard work, attention to detail and good organizational skills fuel Isabel’s academic success. And it also helps that she’s competitive. “I enjoy competing with my classmates,” she said with a grin.
“Isabel takes instruction to heart,” said her mom, Delia, a history teacher at Sayre. “Her middle school Spanish teacher told her to label items in her room in Spanish and that’s exactly what Isabel did.”
For her college essay, she wrote a rough draft in the summer, has solicited feedback from different people and is close to a finished version.
With all her various interests, Isabel is considering varying paths in college: architecture, engineering, maybe the law.
She’d also like to work soccer into her college experience. Lightning fast and nearly 6-foot tall, Isabel is a matchup nightmare. That’s why she plays all over the field – outside and center midfielder and center forward. This year, she was officially declared a roaming midfielder.
Versatility again.
Isabel led Sayre in scoring (20 goals) and assists (12) this year and was named to the All-District tournament team. Last year, she was All-City honorable mention.
Versatility is her strong suit in basketball too. The team’s two-time leading free-throw shooter, Isabel was All-City honorable mention for Sayre, which won the All-A Regional title. Isabel was named to the All-A Regional Tournament team.
No matter what she chooses for college, Isabel will undoubtedly succeed.
“I set goals for myself and I’m very determined,” she said.
We already see what she means.
