Work of College Interns Enlivens the Summer

.........................................................................................

The work of college interns from UK and Asbury, and high school students through Fayette County’s EBCE program has graced our pages down through the years.

And this summer has produced especially compelling work from Claire FitzSimmonds of Asbury College and Hannah Nyren of Emerson College in Boston.

Their stories in the magazine and on our web site reflect their special talents and experiences.

In the August issue, Claire wrote an entertaining and informative article about her experience as a homeschooled student in Virginia. This month, she applied black comedy to a story on cell phone use while driving. It’s a must read for parents of teenage drivers.

Hannah, who’s from Dallas, comes to us this summer because she’s visiting relatives in Lexington.

She showcased her writing skills last month with a delightful article about accompanying her 11-year-old niece to her first Harry Potter movie premiere.

This month, Hannah sharpens her wit on life as an Echo Boomer and the family scene at Lexington’s Thursday Night Live downtown.
She also penned a fascinating article about her work as a member of Jumpstart, an AmeriCorps program in which volunteers tutor and mentor children in lower income preschools.

Hannah also compiled a recommended reading list of children’s books.

We will miss both of these talented women when they return to college in the fall.
