..............................................................................................
The Lexington Children’s Theatre brings the classic tale of “Cinderella” to life this month based on the musical as written by Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Watch as the lovely maiden escapes her overbearing stepsisters to enjoy the royal ball with the prince. Showtimes are Saturday, Aug. 1, at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Aug. 2, at 2 p.m.
Come before the first show on Aug. 1 for Cinderella’s Brunch and Ball. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., children can meet Cinderella, take part in crafts and a dance workshop by the Blue-grass Youth Ballet, and feast on food catered by O’Charley’s.
Tickets to the main shows, which will be at the LCT Main Stage on Short Street, cost $16 for adults and $13 for children. Tickets to the brunch, which will be at the Downtown Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre, cost $12.
Also, the Theatre has announced that stimulus act funding from the National Endowment for the Arts has preserved two jobs that might otherwise have been lost as the economy takes a toll on arts initiatives. LCT has combined its resident designer and technical director positions into one and reassigned some responsibilities to a lead scenic artist position. Info: 254-4546, Ext. 247.
The Beaumont Centre Family YMCA will host its fifth annual Tri-Y Kids Triathlon on Sunday, Aug. 2. The event begins at 7:30 a.m. and is open to children ages 7 to 14. Those aged 7 to 10 will swim 100 yards, bike 3 miles and run a half-mile. Children aged 11 to 14 will do twice as much of each activity. Registration is $20 for YMCA members and $30 for non-members. Info: 219-9622.

Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital broke ground in mid-July on a major expansion. When completed in early 2011, the new three-story, 158,173-square foot addition will bring the hospital’s bed capacity to 208. Of those, 114 will be private and 94 semi-private. “This expansion project is all about patient care,” said Kerry Gillihan, Cardinal Hill’s president and CEO.
As the project progresses, on-site work can be viewed live on www.cardinalhill.org.
