letter from rebecca:

My New Name, a Crowded Fridge

.........................................................................................

Over the past few months, several significant life changes have come my way. A few, I must admit, I’ve been dreaming about since I was old enough to comprehend the “magic” between Barbie and Ken.

Others… well, we’ll just say have been a little less than expected. As you might guess, I write this to announce that I’ve excitedly embraced the title of newlywed!

On June 13th, Sam and I exchanged vows in a historic Lexington church among all our family and friends.

Even though the day brought with it a few bobbles, including a frozen bouquet and loose wedding dress, it was nothing short of perfect!
The next day we jetted to Jamaica for a much deserved week in the sun! After a year of planning, we were ready to relax!

With our toes in the sand and drink in hand, even the daily four o’clock thunderstorm couldn’t wipe the smiles off our faces!

But all honeymoons do eventually end. We found ourselves oh-so-very-soon on the doorstep of our new home ready for “real life” to kick in.

As we crossed the threshold, I couldn’t help but think of the other changes to take place! New name, new social security card and adjusting to living with a man.

Actually, make that living with two men, one woman and a dog named Tess.

Did I mention we have roommates? Yes, you read correctly! Sam and I decided months ago that we would keep roommates as a married couple.

Considering that both of us hadn’t lived solo since before college, it seemed more like the norm than counter-culture. We’re a month in and so far so good!  The largest obstacle we’ve faced has been finding room in our shared fridge for the milk!

Interestingly, our parents’ generation seem the most accepting of our chosen lifestyle -- probably because our mortgage payment is basically paid by our renters!

With Sam starting medical school, this will be a huge help.
Of course this choice isn’t for everyone. For me though, I love going home to my sweet husband and our house abuzz with activity.

Maybe I’ve earned my long time nickname of “Mother Hen” after all... Let the nesting begin!!!
