Would you design a bicycle built for 30 so your class can take a gasoline-free field trip? How about a potion that turns parking lots into forests? Or a giant vacuum to clean the air around our planet?

We want to hear from you!

We are asking kids in grades K-5 to tell us in 100 words or less what they would invent to make the world a greener place to live.

We’ve got an exciting lineup of prizes this year. Once again we are giving away the newest doll from American Girl. Mia, the 2008 Girl of the Year, is a talented ice skater who learns the value of being a good sport.

We also have a collection of beautiful collectible Breyer Horses from Breyerfest. These models are a great introduction to the world of Breyerfest, which will be held July 18 at the Kentucky Horse Park.

We haven’t forgotten the boys either! Each of the winners from the boys category will take home a huge package of games from the award-winning Monopoly line from Parker Brothers including Disney and SpongeBob Monopoly and the brand new Monopoly Express.

Entries will be judged in three age categories: Kindergarten and 1st grade, 2nd and 3rd grade, and 4th  and 5th grade. We’ll pick one girl and one boy from each age group to be the grand prize winner.

The deadline for entry is March 28. Winners will be announced at Lexington Family Magazine’s  Summer Camps & Activities Fair, Saturday, April 12. The Fair, which is always free, is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kentucky Indoor Soccer & Sports, and the winners will be announced at 1 p.m. Winners will be listed in the June issue of Lexington Family Magazine.

To enter, kids should mail their story to Lexington Family Magazine, 138 E. Reynolds Rd, Suite 201, Lexington, KY 40517 or e-mail it to Events@LexingtonFamily.com by Friday, March 28. Make sure to include your name, gender, grade and phone number on the entry. Teachers – if you are entering your whole class, please make sure your name and school name are on each child’s entry as well.
