Take Fit Family Challenge to Win Prizes

It’s time to sign up for the 2016 Lexington Family Magazine Fit Family Challenge, and if you’re like me you’re both excited and worried.

Excited because I always dream I can get back into the kind of shape I was in high school when I played sports 24/7.

All it takes is hard work.

Worried because high school was more than four decades ago and I’m still wondering when I’m gonna get back in shape.

I guess I should adjust my expectations, ya think?

My goal is simple – I want to lose 15 pounds… by yesterday. I’m told that is a highly unrealistic goal. (Don’t you hate Negative Nells).

But a man can dream, can’t he?

Actually, I’ve discarded any weight-loss target. My goal – like so many of us – is to improve my health by getting in better shape.

As a man of a certain age (let’s just say that I’m older than most of our readers – way, way older), I still see myself as a role model for my son, who turned 24 in April.

Following a healthy, active lifestyle is one of the many choices I make that I hope my son will emulate.

And I learned a long time ago that when it comes to parenting, talk is cheap.

Action rules the day.

Getting in shape isn’t rocket science – We all know that we have to eat less and exercise more.

That’s not the problem.

The problem is learning strategies for finding time in our busy lives to exercise.

That’s how the Fit Family Challenge can help. We are providing professional help, community classes and all kinds of prizes as incentives so everyone in the community can jump on the fitness bandwagon.

To check out all the prizes and details, please see our stories on Pages 8, 10, and 11.

See ya at the gym.
