DIY (or win!) a Darling Diaper Cake

Diaper cakes are a fun, creative way to give a new mom the most amazing baby gift in the world: free diapers. Diaper cakes can be elaborately decorated, but are simple to make if you have an extra hour on your hands.

You will need:

  • Approximately 50 diapers (we used sizes 1 and 2)
  • Small rubber bands
  • Large rubber bands or string
  • Cardboard square or circle for the base
  • Three bottles of baby wash, shampoo or lotion
  • Ribbon
  • Decorations (baby items like rattles or teethers work well)

 Step 1

Rubber band your baby wash (or use a prepackaged gift set) and place in the center of the cardboard circle.

Step 2

Starting at the bottom of the diaper, roll each diaper like a jelly roll. Use a small rubber band in the center to keep it in a roll. Repeat with all the diapers.

Step 3

When you finish rolling the diapers, arrange them in a circle surrounding the baby wash. When you finish one layer, secure with a large rubber band or piece of tightly knotted string. Add one more circle around that layer, securing it with a rubber band or string as well.

Step 4

Create your next tier of the cake by arranging a circle of diapers on top of the bottom inner layer. Secure with a rubber band.

Step 5

Finish the top tier by bundling together one circle of diapers using a single rolled diaper as the base. Secure with a rubber band and place on top of the cake.

Step 6

Use ribbon to hide the string around the layers and keep the diapers in place.

Step 7

Decorate! Another ribbon wrapped around the cake vertically will hold the three tiers together. Use double-sided tape or sticky Velcro to hold toys and other light-weight baby items onto the cake.
